While sad things happen to normal families all too often, Ava’s story has impacted our lives, our journey as mothers, like no other. Perhaps it is because it happened close to home, beneath hot summer Queensland skies. Perhaps because we have a daughter, a niece who wears the same name and dreams the same three and a half year old dreams. But we expect it is simply because we know that Ava’s story could have easily been our story. Or your story. Ava was also loved by a community that followed her life through the eloquent words and stunning photographs shared on a blog by her mother, Sheye. Sheye has an amazing ability to connect with people through her craft and her posts since Ava's passing, while both heartbreaking and so very poignant, have drawn an even wider community. An international community of mothers, fathers, sisters, aunts, friends, grandmothers who find strength and inspiration through the honesty, courageousness and humanity of the Rosemeyer family. A community whose daily interactions with their own children have been altered through knowing Ava’s story. We count ourselves amongst them. |

As all little girls do, Ava Rosemeyer delighted in the idea of a fanciful tea party with all the trimmings, in the company of her besties and her family. Sheye, as all mothers do, promised they would one day find the time and make a plan to hold one. Ava’s Tea Party never was. But now it is. In 2009, Ava’s heartbroken family started a new tradition to remember Ava on her birthday in August – Ava’s Tea Party - and in an emotional tribute to a Beauty Full child lost too soon, families from around the world sat still. And shared cake. And a cup of tea. And remembered Ava. At Details, details! we love a party, and this one, Ava’s Tea Party, has found a special place in our heart too. So this August, we’re breaking out the fancy china. We’re hanging paper chains amongst the trees. We’re letting the kids decorate the cakes. We’re picking flowers from next door’s garden to decorate the table . . .shhh don’t tell. We’re celebrating small things. We’re grateful for the moment. And we’re remembering Ava. We also had a little idea to help make it easy for you to join in. An idea that we hoped might build on the vision of the Rosemeyer family and help encourage and inspire families to sit still a little while, celebrate the small things, be grateful for moments and create memories. Because Ava’s Tea Party, big or small, simple or fancy, is the perfect opportunity to do just that. |
